This week, Cancer Research has received more than 800,000 donations after a huge online campaign took effect; asking women of all ages to post ‘selfies’ with no make-up on, using the hashtag trend #nomakeupselfie.

This huge trend has helped the Cancer Research UK charity raise over £1 million through text donations since Wednesday morning this week.

This campaign started on the social media site Facebook on Tuesday evening. The campaign asks women to post photos of themselves on their profile without makeup.

Cancer Research said that they received nearly 1 million unexpected donations since Tuesday evening; most of which were via text messages and there were a lot more insights into their website.

The #nomakeupselfie trend has been highly criticised for having ‘little to do with breast cancer’ and not raising money for charity… Cancer Research UK’s latest comments prove this wrong; Carolan Davidge, director of communications at Cancer Research UK said: “The #nomakeupselfie Twitter trend isn’t something Cancer Research UK started but it’s great to see so many people getting involved to help raise awareness of cancer amongst their friends and family. If people would like to choose to support our work to beat cancer sooner, they can visit cruk.org.”
